They say April Showers bring May Flowers but I skipped the showers this April and went straight for the flowers in my April Bullet Journal this month! We do get some flowers in April here in western PA, such as tulips, so I thought they would be perfect for my April theme. I was excited to try a couple of different artistic techniques in my journal this month as well. Some of them came out nice while others did not. Let’s dive in to my April Bullet Journal pages!

April Bullet Journal Cover Page

April Bullet Journal Cover Page with Tulips

Every month I start my bullet journal planning by doing a quick Pinterest search for some inspiration. This month, I came across a lovely cover page that was themed with tulips. Once everything was said and done, I look at this page and I really love part of it and I really don’t love part of it. I was excited to use my “calligraphy” I learned at the library recently and I thought the sporadic tulips on the page were a lovely touch. Then I tried to do some “plaid” on the edges and it just really did not go well. It would have been better if I used scrap book paper or just continued the tulips all the way to the edges. While I am slightly disappointed, I always find errors in my bullet journal as learning moments. I will either not do that technique again or I will try to get better at that technique. That’s one of the reasons I love bullet journaling.

Calendar

If you’ve been here a minute you know I love myself a full size, two-page calendar in my journal and I was again able to fit one this month as well! I’m also happy to report that we had plenty of room this month unlike in March. I’m also happy to report that I tried another technique on this spread that was a little more successful than drawing plaid. Enter ombre/blending. This was a slightly better execution but I could still use some additional practice. I add some fun ombre tulips to the bottom as well.

Habit Tracker

I think I switched things up this month and put my habit tracker first instead of my mood tracker. I saw that my calendar spread had bled through my pages casing a little ghosting so I wanted to cover that with some tulips so it made sense to switch the mood and habit tracker this month. I kept things simple with my go-to calendar stamps and included some ombre tulips at the bottom.

Mood Tracker

The last spread in my April Bullet Journal is my mood tracker. This one cracks me up when I think about it. I had such great inspo for this and the execution is just sad. As I was drawing this un-opened tulips in their bouquet I started to think about home they look much more like Chinese fortune cookies rather than tulips. Let’s just say while this spread is functional, it is not as pretty as I intended.

If you liked the look of these pages and want to try out some of the same tools, I’ve put together a list of the supplies I used.

Wrapping Up April

Even though not every spread turned out exactly as I envisioned, that’s part of the fun and growth that comes with bullet journaling. Some ideas stick, some flop, and some just need a bit more practice—hello, fortune cookie tulips! April gave me a chance to play with new techniques like ombre and blending, and I’m proud of the progress, even if it’s imperfect.
